Pakistan defeated India by a massive margin of 180 runs at the Oval and became won the ICC Champions Trophy 2017. The contest appeared to be one sided as Pakistan’s side batted magnificently to set a gigantic total of 339 for team India to chase. Pakistan’s bowling juggernaut of a line up destroyed the strong Indian batting line up.
India’s skipper Virat Kohli won the toss and chose to field first. Fakhar Zaman and Azhar Ali were to open for Pakistan, hoping to give their team a solid start in the final. The openers delivered a better than expected performance as Azhar Ali scored a half century before getting run out due to a mix up whereas Fakhar Zaman scored his first century against India and that too in the final. The two laid the foundation for what was to follow. Mohammad Hafeez played an aggressive knock in the final overs, which cemented a robust total for Kohli and company.
Amir Destroys Indian Batting
Rohit Sharma and Shikar Dhawan opened the batting for the Indian side. Sarfaraz handed the ball to Amir to start the second innings. The very first over of Amir reminded fans about his performance against the same side in World T20 2016 where he took he bamboozled Rohit Sharma with his spell and took his wicket in the very first over. Amir did the same in the Champions trophy final and yet again dismissed Sharma’s statement that he is just an ordinary bowler. The next victim to Amir’s bowling attack was Indian Skipper Virat Kohli who earned a life line when Azhar Ali dropped his catch on the slip just a delivery before his wicket. After losing their skipper and chase master, Indian team found it difficult to gain any stable ground and wickets started to fall in a short span of time. Hardik Pandya’s knock for India was the only commendable performance from their batting line. He scored the fastest half-century in an ICC tournament final. He got run out due to a mix up with Jadeja.
Pakistan Emerged Victorious
Hassan Ali took the last wicket and sealed victory for Pakistan against their archrivals. The team who came in as the underdogs left crowned as champions after much criticism for their lack luster performance against India in group stage. Hassan Ali was the named the player of the tournament and Fakhar Zaman was named man of the match against for his fiery century. Sarfaraz and company are due a reception in Pakistan as they left every Pakistani proud.
