Meet Nitasha Biswas: India’s First Miss TransQueen 2017

Nitasha Biswas, 26, made history by becoming the first Miss Trans Queen of India 2017. It was the first time that he country held a beauty pageant for transwomen.

She is currently pursuing her Masters in Business Management in Kolkata. She will go on to compete at the Miss International TransQueen in Thailand in March 2018.

Reflecting on her journey, Biswas said: “My journey was not easy. I feel very privileged to be where I am today and knowing so much of struggles and hardships that I’ve gone through.” She further added that she wanted to work for education of transgender women. “Many transgender women are going through a lot of molestation, pain, lack of family support. They are getting into sex work. So, it is time that every sector of the society needs to come out and help this community for its betterment.”

The beauty pageant was organized to celebrate beauty and gender fluidity in India. 16 transwomen participated in the contest which was judged by social activists, actors, beauty experts and media professionals.

Loloi from Manipur was the first runner-up while Ragasya from Chennai was crowned the second runner-up.
