CEO Tesla, Elon Musk has stated through a tweet that he has resigned from Donald Trump’s advisory council over the President’s stance to step out of Paris climate accords. Earlier, he had threatened to leave the economic advisory role upon his advice on climate being ignored. Troubles seems to mount at the Oval office as Disney boss Bob Iger is the latest addition of the chief executives to tweet that he has left Trump’s business advisory council. He too protested against the withdrawal from Paris climate agreement. Tensions seem to increase at the White House despite President’s successful visit to Saudi Arabia.
Tech juggernauts have voiced their concerns to oppose some of President Trump’s administration’s controversial policies. Earlier in February, Uber CEO Travis Kalanick left the council after the administration exercised a travel ban on people from seven Muslim Majority companies.
President Trump announced on Thursday that he was withdrawing the United States from Paris climate agreement, which fulfills his pre-election promise and moderately dulling global efforts to curb global warming. However, President Trump stated that he was willing to renegotiate the terms of the agreement, which were penned down under his predecessor. He was also scornful of the pact, which he referred to as a humiliating defeat for American workers that unfairly was beneficial to foreign countries.
The decision is associated to a rebuttal of the worldwide efforts to pressure Trump to stay as part of the agreement, which 195 countries have signed to. Even, Trump’s daughter, Ivanka Trump lobbied for her father to remain a part of the agreement. However, he succumbed to conservatives who assert that the plan is not a prosperous one for United States. Troubles are nowhere near over for President Trump as earlier, German Chancellor Angela Merkel also gave a wakeup call to Europe over Trump’s stance on climate change.
