Cricket fans were left bamboozled and impressed as Bangladesh gave a comeback show against New Zea Land at Cardiff in ICC Champions Trophy. The Bengal Tigers won by five wickets after they were reduced to 33 for 4 while chasing a total of 266. Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah added 224 runs nearly, marking a historic performance with the bat from the two.
Bangladesh and Cardiff
Bangladesh has not left the world in a state of shock through its performance as it defeated the mighty Australian side in 2005 at Cardiff, when the Kangaroos had the likes of Ponting. Yesterday’s victory for Bangladesh opens up the group A of the tournament as well. The entire Bangladesh will be in support of England to defeat mighty Australia or instead pray for a washout in Edgabaston for them in order to reach semi-finals of the Champions trophy after 11 years. The team has improved immensely and the victory suggests that the side is becoming a force to reckon with.
How it happened
Bangladesh’s top order collapsed by the end of 12th over and the picture being painted suggested their elimination from the tournament. The partnership between Shakib and Mahmudullah went ahead of the 178-run partnership of Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur stand against Pakistan in 2015. Shakib recorded his seventh ton in the ODI format. He lost his wicket at a time when his side was just nine runs away from victory. Even the New Zealand players were applauding the performance and the crowd stood up as well to recognize his knock. All eyes are set on the England Australia clash as it would seal the fate of Group and decide the two teams going in the semis.
