Bollywood is no new to the realm of drama. Ever since the dawn of Hindi cinema, drama has been their core USP and it still is. Drama is such an integral part of their films that they can’t even resist adding a couple of sad and happy duets or singles in a so called superhero movie like Krish. At least they believe Krish is a superhero movie while we think of it as a modern hilarious remake of an old Sultan Rahi movie.
Apart from all the dank humor and wet jokes, we all grew up watching the same drama sequences and even cried at times. If you watch an old Hindi movie now, you would find it so cheesy and be astounded by yourself that how did you ever manage to go through such a roller coaster of emotions and melodrama even once?
In the spirit of this mother’s day, let’s have a look at the most infamously dramatic moms of bollywood:
Nirupa Roy is the perfect definition of what you call a righteous or an “Usool Parast” mom. She has played mother to one of the biggest stars of bollywood especially Amitabh Bachan in movies like Deewar, Muqaddar ka Sikandar, and Amar Akbar Anthony. She has been long appraised for her dramatic dialogue deliveries and virtuous motherhood. She is the one mother you’d rather have than a bangla, gaari, and bank balance.
She may not have played a lot of mommy roles but she has shown some great promise as an apathetic and devoted mother. Her famously moping role where she’s stuck between the wishes of her “pati parmeshwar” and his “chandni chowk k chand ka tukra” in the movie “Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham”. She is also famous for her moping roles in movies like “Kal Ho Na Ho” and “Fiza”.
Be it a mommy’s role or a grand mommy’s role, Farida Jalal nails it like she was born to do it. One of the cutest mommies of all times with a touch of good sense of humor. Her peppy side of motherhood seen in movies like “DDLJ” and “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai” sets her apart from the typical crying bollywood mommies.
Is it just me or whenever you think of a bollywood mommy, the face of Raakhee Jee appears in your mind?
Raakhee Jee is a natural when it comes to mommy roles. She can go from being an upstanding and righteous mommy to a gangster in “Khalnayak” to a vengeful widow and mother of two uprighteous sons in “Ram Lakhan” and nail them all.
And lest we forget the very epitome of motherly hope, the infamous dialogue we grew up hearing;
“Mere Karan Arjun Aenge”
Kirron Kher is the single most happening and lively mommy you could ever meet. She is the kind of a mother that you would trade your gang hangout just to spend some time with her because of the fact that she’s so cool and funny. Movies like Devdas, Veer Zara, Om Shanti Om, Dostana are a lovely example of her versatile acting skills.
Her dazzling acting skills were the only interesting abiut the movie “Khoobsoorat” but still couldn’t save the movie from sinking.
